OYEN Emotional Wellness Brings Art Into Emotional Wellness Through New Community Collaboration 2026
WOODBURN, Ore. — OYEN Emotional Wellness Center is proud to announce the release of Momentos de Calma: Cozy Coloring Book, a new creative wellness resource designed to encourage reflection, relaxation, cultural connection and moments of calm. The coloring book reflects OYEN’s belief that emotional wellness can be supported in many ways, including through creativity, family connection and meaningful cultural experiences. At OYEN, emotional wellness is not limited to the therapy room. It can also be found in everyday moments that allow people to slow down, reconnect with themselves and feel connected to their families, traditions and communities.
Momentos de Calma was created with that purpose in mind.
The book was developed in collaboration with Josie Hernandez, a Chicana digital artist and coloring book creator behind PNW Chicana Creations. Her artwork is inspired by Mexican-American culture, childhood memories, family traditions and the everyday experiences that create a sense of comfort, belonging and connection.
“At OYEN, we believe emotional wellness should feel accessible, personal and connected to the experiences that shape who we are,” said Melinda Avila, CEO of OYEN Emotional Wellness Center. “Momentos de Calma is another way for us to encourage people to slow down, reconnect with meaningful memories and create space for themselves in a way that feels familiar and welcoming.”
The pages of Momentos de Calma feature illustrations inspired by familiar experiences such as making tortillas together, listening to music while cleaning the house, roasting chiles, neighborhood gatherings, family traditions, and time spent with loved ones.
For OYEN, those everyday moments can carry meaningful emotional connections and create opportunities for reflection, comfort and connection. Our organization hopes the coloring book can be enjoyed in many different ways: by someone looking for a quiet moment after a long day, a parent coloring alongside a child, someone remembering a loved one or anyone simply looking for a creative way to slow down.
A Collaboration Rooted in Culture and Community
Born in Los Angeles and raised between California and Oregon, Josie is a self-taught Chicana artist whose work celebrates identity, family and the experiences that make people feel connected to home. Having spent many of her formative years in Woodburn, Oregon, the collaboration with OYEN also reconnects Josie with a community that helped shape her own story. For Josie, representation is about creating the feeling of, “I remember that,” “my family did that too,” or “this feels like home.”
“More than anything, I hope these pages give you a little space to slow down, create, and enjoy some time for yourself,” said Josie of PNW Chicana Creations.
That message closely reflects OYEN’s approach to emotional wellness: creating opportunities for people to feel seen, supported and connected in ways that are meaningful to their own lives.
