Meet the Artist
Josie is a Chicana digital artist and coloring book creator behind PNW Chicana Creations. Born in Los Angeles and raised between California and Oregon, her artwork is deeply inspired by her Mexican-American identity, family, childhood memories, and the everyday moments that make us feel connected to home.
A self-taught artist, Josie has loved drawing for as long as she can remember. Her creative journey grew from experimenting, learning through trial and error, and discovering that art could become a meaningful way to tell the stories she rarely saw represented growing up.
Her illustrations celebrate the little things that often stay with us the longest: making tortillas together, listening to music while cleaning the house, roasting chiles, neighborhood gatherings, family traditions, and time spent with the people we love.
For Josie, representation is about more than simply seeing familiar images on a page. It is about creating that feeling of, “I remember that,” “my family did that too,” or “this feels like home.”
Creating With OYEN
Josie’s collaboration with OYEN brings together culture, creativity, and emotional wellness in a deeply personal way. Having spent many of her formative years in Woodburn, this project also reconnects her to a community that helped shape her own story.
As she created and selected the artwork for this coloring book, Josie thought about the person who would eventually sit down with each page: someone needing a quiet moment, someone coloring alongside their child, someone remembering a loved one, or someone simply looking for a little space to create.
Her hope is simple: that these pages make you smile, bring back a memory, start a conversation, or give you a moment to slow down.
“More than anything, I hope these pages give you a little space to slow down, create, and enjoy some time for yourself.”
